The reopening of Australia’s most critical border will see a significant shift in recruitment as businesses look to secure new talent.
The closure came into force in July as Victoria struggled to contain a second wave of COVID-19.
It was the first time the border had closed in 100 years.
There has been a reluctance of people to leave current jobs during Covid, if they still had one, as the uncertainty made them feel “better the devil you know.” As borders open, and we get back to a more normal work environment, these same people will now be more active in looking for a new role.
From history, we know that sourcing premium talent can be challenging for every recruiter and employer, so now could be the ideal time to start sourcing those prime candidates, even if looking to commence new roles in January 2021.
This means recruiters now have a unique opportunity to access this potential increased talent pool.
The market for quality candidates could be even more so than prior to Covid, as employers look to bounce back form the shutdowns as quickly as possible. So it is also important for employers to develop a streamlined recruitment process, as quality candidates will not stay long on the open market.
