Is the Job Board dying?
Most employers or agencies, will advertise a vacancy primarily on Seek, and possibly on other smaller job boards or the pay per click job boards.
But if looking for staff, is this the best method these days?
We all know if you place an ad on a job bard for a reception, administration or customer service person you will inundated with applications, most of which are hairdressers or people who have worked at Maccas.
If you are looking to fill a more senior, or niche role, then job bards will not find your solutions.
Of the more senior and niche roils we have filled this year, 70% have come from our own database, networks or our frequent social media activities.
Placing an ad on a job board will not find the right person as people at senior or niche level will not be applying.
Why is this?
2 reasons only possible:
1. All the people at this level are happily employed and not looking to move, or
2. There is a real shortage of good candidates at this level.
Answer is probably a mix of both these answers.
What this does show is that the job board in our experience does not have the same effectiveness as it did a couple of years ago, and recruiters need to be more pro-active in sourcing quality candidates, and not just sit back and wait for applications.
This of course also applies to in house recruiters.
I.T. is one area in particular where placing an ad on Seek, will have very limited success.
Recruiters and employers who rely on posting to job boards only to source new staff will be missing out on the best candidates out there.
